Guitar Performance Coaching for Aspiring Musicians
Helping guitarists overcome timing, groove, and performance issues that keep their playing from sounding confident, natural and musical.
Does any of this sound familiar?
- You can play songs and solos, but still donβt sound fully confident or musical…
- Youβre preparing for gigs, recordings, or performances but lack consistency…
- Your timing and groove become unstable under pressure…
- Improvisation feels mechanical or repetitive despite regular practice…
- You keep learning more and more material, yet your playing still feels βstuckβ…
Many players reach a plateau because…
- Performances sound rehearsed but not compelling.
- Improvisation feels disconnected, mechanical, lick-repetitive, uninspired.
- Tensions emerge which interrupt phrasing and flow.
- Groove gets lost at higher tempos.
- Practising the same material reinforces not only bad habits but also keeps players locked inside the same musical boxes.
- Timing, expression and control collapse under pressure.
- Over-reliance on familiar chord shapes, as opposed to exploring other positions.

About
Hi, Iβm Dean Adams BMus FLCM FLCM.
My background spans both formal conservatory and contemporary performance training, alongside years of live performance, recording, improvisation, and one-to-one coaching work. My work includes engagement with the contemporary music industry through music business research, industry networking and artist development.
Over time, I became increasingly interested in why technically capable players still struggle with groove, phrasing, confidence, and musical expression under real performance conditions.

My approach
Many guitarists can already play the notes correctly. The real challenge is maintaining:
- groove
- phrasing
- timing stability and
- expressive control
under real musical conditions. Yet, rather than forcing every player through the same rigid sequence of methods, sessions focus on identifying and resolving the specific musical and technical constraints currently limiting confident, convincing playing.
My coaching thus focuses on identifying and resolving the hidden constraints that keep players from sounding relaxed, musical and convincing in practice, rehearsal, recording and live settings.
